The Canadian Bandura Foundation is actively involved in educating for young musicians. The foundation has assisted in the establishment of bandura programs for beginners by members of the Bandura Youth Chorus in Saturday Ukrainian School programs at:

The foundation is also investigating the possibility of providing bandura instructions during a week night at St. Sophia's School in Mississauga, west of Toronto.

Through the assistance of the Canadian Bandura Foundation and the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Tares Shevchenko, a number of the advanced chorus members have participated in a series of seminars on teaching beginner bandurists which took place in September 1998, followed by an update in September 1999.

Through the generosity of donors such as The Honorable John and Mrs. Yaremko, other Ukrainian folk instruments such as the tsymbaly have been acquired by the Canadian Bandura Foundation. There are currently plans in process to provide instruction in playing these instruments.


The Canadian Bandura Foundation provides financial assistance for young musicians in the form of awards, stipends, and scholarships.

This summer the foundation sponsored the tuition for a number of young bandurists at the following music camps:

In addition to supporting students attending these summer camps, 4 young musicians received funding to cover tuition and transportation for an intensive one month course of instruction under Vasyl' Herasymenko, Professor of Bandura at the Lysenko Higher Institute of Music in Lviv, Ukraine, These intensive courses focused on individual music theory, vocal and instrumental instruction.

An endowment fund has been established from which the first recipient will be awarded in June, 2000.
