Introduction

This particular image was programmed/created by myself in July 1996 using the Public Domain software package Persistence Of Vision Ray Tracer Version 3.0. This image was motivated by the S. Kubrick's Film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Monolith does have the proportions of 1:4:9 with a non-reflective surface except for the Ukrainian related materials which have a metallic finish to them. In the higher reolution images one can actually see the water reflected off the Flag and Alpha-Numeric Characters. The mountains in the background are a heightfield generated from a Marks-Julia Fractal Formula by the program Fractint For Windows Version 18.21. The mountains were colour-mapped/shaded to simulate the effect of the terrain similarly found near Drumheller, Alberta, Canada.
