CUCC
Meets Caron
His Excellency G. Daniel
Caron, Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine, specifically asked his
staff to request a meeting with the Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce when he
was in Toronto last week.
The CUCC arranged for a luncheon meeting at the Boulevard Club on March 5, 2009. Present at the luncheon were members of the
CUCC Board of Directors, the Executive Committee as well as high ranking
members of the Ukrainian Canadian business community. CUCC Vice President John
Iwanura welcomed the ambassador and opened the business luncheon.
A number of subjects were discussed at the luncheon, including,
apparent visa problems encountered by businessmen as well as citizens wanting
to visit Canada, Canadian corporations having problems in Ukraine with
corporate raiders, CIDA grants awarded for business ventures in Ukraine, and
the general business climate in Ukraine.
Ambassador Caron was found to be very knowledgeable and aware of
the various situations in Ukraine, for the short period of
time he has been in office. The CUCC informed the Ambassador of its intention
to open an office sometimes before mid-summer and Ambassador Caron suggested
that he would want to work closely with the CUCC and was very pleased with
their plans.
