Help Us Help the Orphans

Telethon Fundraiser April 27 to May 2, 2013

Help Us Help The Children, a project of Children Of Chornobyl Canadian Fund is a voluntary, non-profit charitable initiative dedicated to improving the quality of life of children living in orphanages in Ukraine. The purpose and mission of Help Us Help The Children (HUHTC) is to provide immediate aid to those most vulnerable in Ukraine - the children. The statistics of their life prospects are grim to the date, as the Government of Ukraine does very little to cover even their basic needs.

For 20 years now, Help Us Help The Children has made at least two humanitarian trips a year, personally delivering supplies to orphanages in all parts of Ukraine. To date, outreach teams have travelled a combined distance of over 170,000 km throughout 25 oblasts (regions) of Ukraine. Over 35,000 children in more than 205 orphanages, 16 hospitals, rehabilitation centres and clinics have benefited from supplies of medication, infant formula, clothing, as well as educational toys and materials.

Members of Help Us Help The Children and our Ukrainian team have distributed over 980 tons of purchased and/or donated goods with a retail value of approximately $16,000,000 CAD. With improvements in all orphanages, yearly routes have decreased, however, surprise visits continue to review that quality of care is maintained.

HUHTC members work towards their mission through:

• Life skills-building annual summer and winter camps in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains

• Scholarship programs

• Anti-trafficking seminars

• Medical/dental exams and equipment distribution

• Disbursement of educational materials, clothes, and toys

The children’s unforgettable, truly life changing experiences are possible because of the generous support of our friends. The HUHTC holds events here, in Canada, to raise money for the orphans. All of the proceeds will go towards covering the costs of the Summer camp facilitation and supplies for over 400 orphans in Ukraine.

As the 20^th Anniversary Summer Camp continues to look for benefactors, we hope to raise as much awareness of the telethon event as possible, and thus we are asking for your support in this undertaking.
