Automaidan Toronto sends a message to Ukraine
Toronto, Ontario – This week, organizers of Automaidan Toronto thought of a unique approach to expressing support for Ukraine, with the idea of constructing a message by lining up cars.
On Sunday, April 27, 2014, members of the Ukrainian-Canadian community gathered at a parking lot in Etobicoke. Over 70 participants lined up their cars as directed, forming a message: “Stop Putin” (or STOPTN). With this message, the Toronto car rally sent their support to the Ukrainian people, symbolizing solidarity.
“We want the people of Ukraine to know that they have our support, here in Toronto,” says Yevgen Denysov – one of the organizers. Denysov also outlined that Automaidan Toronto works in congruence with Automaidan New York, London and other participating cities around the globe, in the hopes to spread awareness on the current events taking place in Ukraine and the importance of the Automaidan initiative.
Previously, the Automaidan activists organized rallies outside of the Toronto’s General Consulates of the countries supporting Ukraine. As well, they drove with Ukrainian flags flying from their cars and honking horns to St. Ellias Church in Brampton.
Toronto’s auto-rally is active on social media, known as #AutoMaidanTO on Twitter and Automaidan Toronto on Facebook. Follow, like, share and join the group to share the message and to show your support for Ukraine!
