Halifax is Canada’s
Atlantic Gateway for Ukraine
On April 16, 2008,
several senior executives of the Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce met in Toronto with Mr. Fred
Morley, Executive Vice President of the Greater Halifax Partnership in a step
to complete their negotiations toward signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
Mr. Morley has visited Ukraine
and has identified a number of business opportunities and recognizes the
advantages possible in working with an organization such as the CUCC. Together,
the two organizations intend to maximize opportunities between Halifax
and Ukraine by identifying
and developing bilateral relationships in trade and investment that would
benefit Ukraine and the
business community in Atlantic Canada and Canada, in general. Both parties
agreed that, with their cooperative efforts, the Port
of Halifax is to be promoted as the
Atlantic Gateway to Canada
and become a major trading/transportation hub between Canada and key
Ukrainian ports.
The meeting with Mr. Morley was attended by the Consul General of
Ukraine in Toronto,
Oleksandr Danyleiko, Zenon Potichny, President of the CUCC, along with his
colleagues John Iwaniura, Bohdan Myndiuk, Les Salnick, Taras Pidzamecky and
Bohdan Leschuk.
As a result of their discussions, both the Greater Halifax
Partnership and the Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce have resolved to begin
their cooperative efforts as soon as possible with the formal signing of the
agreement in the near future.
