UWC Denounces Illegal
So-called “Referendums”
in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions
May 12, 2014 (Toronto) The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) strongly denounces the illegal so-called “referendums” in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine held on 11 May 2014 and agrees with the declaration of their illegitimacy by Ukraine’s Central Election Commission.
The UWC also condemns Russia’s positive assessment of these so-called “referendums” as another indication of Russian involvement in this scenario. Orchestrated by armed Russian-backed provocateurs, these “staged for Western consumption” events were an obvious attempt to artificially fuel civil unrest in the region and disrupt Ukraine’s 25 May Presidential elections.
“The Crimea scenario is being played out now in Eastern Ukraine,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “It is critical for the international community to stand firmly in defense of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and help to ensure that the true will of the Ukrainian people can be expressed during Ukraine’s upcoming Presidential elections.”
