New Generation Promotes Rights of Society’s Vulnerable

Help Us Help the Children (HUHTC) would like to take this opportunity to thank those individuals and organizations for their committed support of our work with orphans in Ukraine. Because of this generosity, HUHTC has been able to assist thousands of orphans in Ukraine through various projects and initiatives.

With this support, HUHTC has been able to deliver much needed humanitarian aid in the form of clothing, footwear, school supplies, medical supplies, antibiotics, vitamins and food to over 200 orphanages during the course of the past 14 years. The organization has also been able to provide specialized surgeries and ongoing rehabilitation and care for orphans with birth defects and physical handicaps.

Furthermore, HUHTC has provided specialized training to hundreds of orphanage employees on the epidemic of AIDS and human trafficking, both of which are rampant in Ukraine. In fact, both AIDS and human-trafficking have the highest growth rate in Ukraine when compared to the rest of the world. This training has saved many children’s lives, as they have become not only aware of the dangers that await them after graduation from an orphanage school, but has also educated them on ways in which they can protect themselves from such a life-threatening situation.

Ongoing education about human and child rights also takes place during HUHTC’s yearly summer camps, which began 12 years ago. These summer camps take place in the Carpathian Mountains and allow close to 500 orphans to enjoy the outdoors, as well as to learn important business skills and computer technology that aim to arm them with useful skills for employment.

Currently, HUHTC is also working at enlarging its Scholarship Program, which provides stipends to orphans who wish to attend post-secondary institutions. Higher-level education helps these children attain the knowledge, skills and experience required to find a fulfilling career. It also allows them to be self-sufficient and to contribute positively to society.

On the eve of our 15th Anniversary, HUHTC has unveiled a new and exciting project: New Generation. This project is mandated at improving, maintaining, representing and protecting the economic, social, spiritual and cultural rights and interests of socially vulnerable children. It is concerned with the protection and the promotion of human rights of the most socially stigmatized and marginalized groups in Ukraine, and in particular, orphans and persons with disabilities. New Generation aims at ensuring the participation of these vulnerable groups in democratic processes, and supporting civil education that promotes peaceful coexistence. The project also supports access to legal and judicial remedies for marginalized groups. Essentially, the New Generation project aims to improve the quality of life and education for orphans, while at the same time, strengthening the development of a civil society, able to recognize and remedy the injustice in everyday life. New Generation is helping orphans help themselves and hence, to create a sustainable life.

Again, HUHTC would like to extend our deepest gratitude and most profound appreciation for your continued support.
