President Receives Award
On Wednesday, May 28th, 2008,
Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko President, Andrew
Hladyshevsky Q.C., received the Order of Merit from the President of Ukraine,
Victor Yushchenko during a community breakfast meeting at the Old Mill in Toronto.
The Order of Merit is
awarded to citizens of Ukraine
and nationals of foreign countries for distinguished personal achievements in
economic, scientific, technological, cultural, military, state, public and
other social spheres of activities.
The Order of Merit
originates from the Honorary Award of the President of Ukraine, the first
decoration of an independent Ukraine
and instituted on August 18, 1992.
“As a loyal son of Lydia and Myroslav Hladyshevsky, I
humbly accept this award on their behalf for their countless hours of
contribution to the Ukrainian Canadian community. It is an honour that the President of Ukraine
views the work of the Shevchenko Foundation, with such high esteem, and the
award is gratefully shared amongst all of those who participate in the vision
of the Shevchenko Foundation. I wish to
express my sincere thanks to all of those volunteers who assisted me over the
years. I specifically thank my wife Daria and my family for their support, allowing
me to promote the works of the Shevchenko Foundation over these past years.”

Foundation of Taras Shevchenko is a national, chartered philanthropic
institution providing leadership by building and nurturing a permanent
endowment fund dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Ukrainian
