Alberta Centenary Pioneer Recognition Program Deadline

The Alberta-Ukraine Genealogical Project has launched its “We Know Who You Are/ Ми про Вас знаємо!” campaign as new nomination forms to the Centenary Pioneer Recognition Program are now available.

Nominations may now include extended family or neighbours of ancestral pioneers, provided the necessary documentation is submitted to confirm settlement history of the family.

Did your ancestors settle in east central Alberta 100 years ago or earlier?

The Centenary Pioneer Recognition Program honours all pioneer families, Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian alike, who settled in east central Alberta prior to 1915. Each summer, eligible pioneers are recognized with Centenary Pioneer Recognition Certificates on Ukrainian Day. A year later, their names appear on a monument at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village as a lasting tribute.

Applicants are not required to be current residents of the original homestead in order to participate in this program. It will be possible to nominate pioneers who settled in east central Alberta prior to 1915 until 2014. Nominations are still being accepted from descendants of pioneers who settled in east central Alberta in 1911 or earlier. Pre-registrations are also being accepted for pioneers who settled in east central Alberta between 1911 and 1914.

Register Now! Recipients of the Centenary Pioneer Recognition Certificate must complete a nomination form in advance. Please complete all sections of the nomination form, and return to the offices of the Centenary Pioneer Recognition Program by June 30, 2011.

This year, nominations must be accompanied by copies of any documentation that verifies your ancestors’ year of settlement to east central Alberta. To learn more about this program, please visit http://tapor.ualberta.ca/heritagevillage/gene .
