Prime Minister of Canada Commends Ukrainian Canadian

Canada’s Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, recognized Stefan Kuzmyn on June 23, 2007 for his decades of dedicated volunteer service on behalf of the people of Ukraine and Canada.

Mr. Kuzmyn, a Ukrainian nationalist, political prisoner, and survivor of several Nazi concentration camps, immigrated to Canada from a Displaced Persons camp after the Second World War. He worked for many years at the Nylon Plant, in Kingston, Ontario. For most of the past five decades he was also president of the Kingston branch of the Canadian League for Ukraine’s Liberation (since 1991 known as the League of Ukrainian Canadians) and of the Ukrainian Canadian Club of Kingston.

For personal reasons, Mr. Kuzmyn is retiring to a Ukrainian Canadian senior’s residence in Toronto.

A small reception for friends and well-wishers was held to mark Mr. Kuzmyn’s retirement from Kingston, at St Mary’s Cathedral Parish Centre, on Saturday, June 23, 2007.
