UWO Members receive Ontario Volunteer Awards

On Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Toronto’s Arcadian Court, five members of the Ukrainian Women’s Organization of  Canada, including our UWO Toronto President, Stacey Suessmuth, a previous recipient, attended the 2009 Ontario Volunteer Awards and Reception, at the invitation of The Honourable Michael Chan, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. These awards are given out each year and all organizations can apply for them.  The awards are strictly for volunteers.  The event hall was filled with men and women of various ethnic backgrounds, organizations, religious groups, and Heritage Language Day and Saturday schools. It was a great celebratory evening filled with happy smiling faces and loud applause for each Award recipient.

From our organization receiving awards were UWO Toronto Members: Anne Fedun – 50 years, who without doubt got the loudest applause of the evening. Lydia Lelyk – 40 years, Nadia Ostapchuk – 40 years, Natalie Obal – 30 years, accepted on her behalf by her sister Nadia, Genya Hunchak – 30 years, and Hanya Cirka – 10 years.
