The Ukrainian National Federation
of Canada will be operating children’s day camps this summer in Toronto, Regina, Windsor and St. Catharines
during July and/or August. The Camp Sonyashnyk programs are geared to children
ages 5-13 who wish to learn more about their Ukrainian heritage. There are a wide range of activities planned such
as arts and crafts with a Ukrainian theme, outdoor games and activities, learning
Ukrainian dance, as well as programs geared around holiday traditions.
In the third week of June, UNF
National brought together the counsellors who were hired through the Canada Summer
Students Employment Program at UNF Toronto Branch for an orientation and training
session lead by the UNF Summer Camps Organizer, Kristin Glover. Kristin will be travelling to Regina for the training of their counsellors in July. The training program involves the preparation of
day-by-day schedules of activities, CPR first-aid training, research of cultural
traditions and innovative ideas for presenting them to the young campers. A key element which is stressed to the counsellors
is to ensure that the cultural and recreational programming is enjoyable and fun.
Camp Sonyashnyk Toronto
will be running from July 4th to July 29th. For more information, please visit the UNF Toronto
website http://unftoronto.com/ or contact the Toronto Branch Office at 416-253-6002.
