UCC
Celebrates Canadian Multiculturalism Day
OTTAWA - June 27, 2012 - Today the
Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement from Paul
Grod, National President, to mark Canadian Multiculturalism Day:
“On behalf of
Canada’s 1.3 million Ukrainian Canadians, I am pleased to wish all Canadians a
happy Multiculturalism Day.
“One of Canada’s
defining principles is our respect for diversity, tolerance and indeed our
support for multiculturalism. The Ukrainian Canadian community has helped to
open up the West and develop Canadian policy in a number of areas including
multiculturalism. We were leaders in supporting the adoption of Canada’s
multicultural policies by the federal government forty years ago. Canada is
stronger because of our multicultural policy and the work of the UCC’s
Ukrainian Community Development Committee.
“Through our community’s
efforts, the concept of multiculturalism was enshrined and celebrates our unity
as Canadians while respecting our diverse cultures and traditions.
“On behalf of the
Board of Directors, Provincial Councils, Branches and the Member Organizations of
the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, I am pleased to proclaim our continued support
for Canada’s multiculturalism policies which enhance our social fabric and
continue to make our country a model of inspiration and admiration for the
world.”
