Canadian Studies Conference at Chernivtsi National University

The Ramon Hnatyshyn Canadian Studies Centre at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (Ukraine) in cooperation with the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine is pleased to announce the “First Biannual Conference on Canadian Studies”, to be held from November 27 to 29, 2009, at Chernivtsi National University (2 Kotsiubynskyj St., Chernivtsi, Ukraine).

The First Biannual Conference on Canadian Studies is designed to bring together academics and government officials who have an interest in understanding various aspects of Canadian-Ukrainian relations. The key issues to be addressed in sessions to take place throughout the conference include a discussion on Canadian and Ukrainian relations since Ukraine’s independence, Canada’s role in the 2004 Orange Revolution, and perspective on economic and cultural development. In addition, Chernivtsi National University has a decades-long relationship with the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. We believe this Conference will start a process of organizing colloquia where Canadian and Ukrainian scholars will meet and further discuss issues regarding Canadian and Ukrainian relations.

Interdisciplinary papers on topics including Ukrainian immigration and integration, Canadian foreign policy towards Ukraine (past and present), as well as on other topics, are especially welcome.

Selected papers from the Conference will be published in a separate volume. The Conference will be conducted in English and Ukrainian.

The Conference Registration Form along with a 200-word abstract of papers and a one paragraph presenter CV should be submitted to the organizers by September 10, 2009, by e-mail to chnu_conf2009@ukr.net

The Conference Registration Fee is 50 USD (to be paid upon arrival at the conference itself).
