New Generation Fund –
Recognition in Kyiv
In Kyiv on July 1st,
“Today’s ceremony recognizes
the work of thousands of Canadians and Ukrainians in making life better and
more meaningful for many orphans and children with disabilities” said
Ambassador Caron. “We created this award
to recognize the special contributions made by Canadian and Ukrainian
individuals or organizations in the development of bilateral relations. I am
honoured to present this first plaque to New Generation (Nove Pokolinnya)
for their continuing work on behalf of children in need.”
Organised by the Help Us
Help The Children Project of the Children of Chornobyl Canadian Fund, New
Generation volunteers made their first deliveries of humanitarian aid in 1993
to orphanages throughout
New Generation organizes
annual winter and summer camps which help the children to develop as
individuals; to prepare for life after the orphanage; and to respect their
country and its traditions. An international team of volunteers annually visits
Ukrainian orphanages to deliver shoes, clothing, medicine, computers, sewing
machines and other gifts. During their visits, the volunteers conduct workshops
for the children on topics ranging from HIV/AIDS to anti-trafficking to home
budgeting. New Generation also has a
scholarship programme to fund qualified orphans entering post-secondary
institutions in pursuit of further studies.
