UCC Celebrates Canadian
Multiculturalism Day
the following statement
from its president, Paul Grod to mark Canadian Multiculturalism Day:
“On behalf of Canada’s 1.25 million strong
Ukrainian Canadian community, I am pleased to wish all Canadians a happy
Multiculturalism Day.
In this 120th year of Ukrainian settlement and as one of Canada’s founding nations, the
Ukrainian Canadian community have been pioneers, trailblazers, and builders of
this great country. We are also one of the founding supporters of the concept
of multiculturalism through the works of the late Senator Paul Yuzyk, Dr.
Manoly Lupul and the late Dr. Dmytro Cipywnyk, among many others. We are
pleased to celebrate our unity as Canadians while respecting our diverse
cultures and traditions.
Just this past weekend at the annual general meeting of the
Ukrainian Canadian Congress in Saskatoon, we were reminded of the
Canada’s multicultural
kaleidoscope through the works of the Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble. We were
similarly reminded of them at the celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Ukrainian
Settlement in Canada and unveiling of the
Taras Shevchenko monument in Ottawa.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the member organizations
of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, I am pleased to proclaim our continued
support for Canada’s multicultural policies
which enhance our social fabric and continue to make our country the envy of
the world.”
