Newly Elected President of UNYF of Canada Volodymyr Grytsiv – Biography

Volodymyr Grytsiv is a native of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine and immigrated to Edmonton with his family in 1996 at the age of 16. Volodymyr has been active in Ukrainian community life in Edmonton since his arrival to Canada, first enrolling in the SUMK Choir, working at the UWAC-sponsored Ukrainian Museum of Canada, teaching dance lessons and organizing EuroCafe evenings in Edmonton. He later joined Suziria Amateur Theatre group at the Ukrainian National Federation Edmonton Branch where his natural stage talent has led to playing lead roles in the company’s productions. Volodymyr helped lead the revival of the Ukrainian National Youth Federation Edmonton Branch in February 2008 and has since served as Branch President. His other community involvements include volunteering for the United Way and promoting Government of Alberta employment opportunities to college and university students as part of an Ambassador Program. Volodymyr holds a Computer Engineering Diploma and is currently completing a Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). He works in the department of Sustainable Resource Development of the Government of Alberta as a web developer and is the owner of EdCoSystems.com, a successful web design and software development business established in 2001. In addition to his love of theatre, Volodymyr is an avid ballroom dancer and a fitness and outdoors enthusiast who enjoys swimming and hiking. Volodymyr attends St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Edmonton. He is married to UNYF Member Bohdana Grytsiv and they have an infant daughter, Olya. Volodymyr was instrumental in re-establishing the UNYF Vancouver Branch in June 2009 and was elected UNYF National President on July 3, 2009 at the UNYF’s 75th Anniversary National Convention held at UNF Toronto Camp “Sokil”, Hawkestone, Ontario.
