Nominations Open for Shevchenko Medal

Winnipeg, July 8, 2010 - Ukrainian Canadian Congress President Paul Grod encouraged individuals and groups to nominate qualified persons for the Shevchenko Medal.

“The Shevchenko Medal is the highest form of recognition that can be granted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. It recognizes individuals of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian descent for their outstanding national contribution towards the development of the Ukrainian Canadian community,” stated Grod. “The next Shevchenko Medals will be awarded at the Triennial Ukrainian Canadian Congress being held from November 5-7, 2010, in Edmonton, Alberta.”

“The Shevchenko Medal recognizes outstanding achievement in community development, culture and the arts, education and sport and is measured by the recipient’s level of excellence and initiative, their sustained body of work, peer recognition and the recipient’s broad impact inside and outside the Ukrainian Canadian community.” stated Roman Melnyk, Chair of the UCC Awards & Recognition Committee.

The Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress will be considering applications at its September 2010 meeting. Only those applications received by August 30, 2010, shall be considered for award at the Triennial Congress.
