Hip Hop Hopak Fundraiser Donates to HUHTCMcGill University student Marta Cybulska presenting cheque to Ruslana Wrzesnewska of HUHTC in Toronto

Montreal (CUSA, MUSA) – On June 19, 2010 in Toronto, McGill University student Marta Cybulska presented a cheque for $3,000 on behalf of members of the Concordia Ukrainian Students’ Union (CUSU), the McGill Ukrainian Students’ Association (MUSA) and the Ukrainian National Youth Federation (UNYF) – Montreal Branch to Ruslana Wrzesnewska, chairperson of Help Us Help The Children (HUHTC) in aid of orphaned children in Ukraine.

The funds were raised by Montreal’s Ukrainian university students who organized the very successful “Hip Hop Hopak Fundraiser” in March, the first ever dance competition between Ukrainian dancers and break dancers.

Every summer, Ukrainian Canadian university students volunteer to work with orphaned children in Ukraine for HUHTC. This year, McGill student Tanya Bednarczak is one of the program participants. Past participants include Johanna Paquin, Melania Czolij, Anna Shabotynsky and Artem Luhovy from MUSA, and Adriana Luhovy and Tanya Bednarczyk from CUSU.

A feature documentary film about the experience of Ukrainian Canadian university students’ volunteer work with orphaned children in Ukraine for the HUHTC program is being prepared by Concordia communications student Adriana Luhovy, chairperson of Montreal’s Hip Hop Hopak fundraiser project.

As Marta Cybulska stated, “It was a pleasure for all the university students to work together for such a worthy cause, to be supported by the Ukrainian community in this major student project and an honour to present the cheque on behalf of the university students”.
