“Stand with Ukrainian People” Rally

Walter Derzko – The Committee EuroMaidan Toronto under the auspices of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC)-Toronto Branch organized the Stand with Ukrainian People Rally held in front of the Ukrainian Consulate, 2275 Lakeshore Blvd, West. Toronto; on Sunday January 19, 2014. The MC for the event was Markian Shwec, from UCC-Toronto Branch, Reverend Fathers Bohdan Sensio and Taras Lozynsky opened and closed the rally with a prayer. Speakers included students- Emiliya Umrykhina and Natalia Laptiva, Federal and Provincial politicians: Hon. Chris Alexander (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration); Ted Opitz (Chair, Canada-Ukraine Friendship Committee); Wladyslaw Lizon (MP, Mississauga East); Chrystia Freeland (MP, Toronto Center); Cheri DiNovo ( MPP, Parkdale-High-Park); Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Former Liberal MP); Yvan Baker (Provincial Candidate, Liberal Party, Etobicoke Center);

Singers – Marta Shpak from Ukraine preformed with students and Halyna Czechowska again led the rally in Christmas carols (koliadky) and Jordan carols (shchedrivky).
