In Memory of Walter Volodymyr Rohatyn
ROHATYN, Walter Volodymyr - In loving memory
of Walter Volodymyr Rohatyn, 82 years, of Sudbury, Ont. who passed away
peacefully on Friday, July 17th, 2009 at Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian
Site. Walter married Ollia (Mysyk) in 1951 in Montreal,
Que. Born in Choroski, Ukraine, on
October 27th,
1926. In November 1941, he was taken by the
German Army and worked as a labourer in Heisterlauch, Germany
which was in the American Sector when Germany
fell. He came to Canada in
1947, settling in Timmins,
Ont. where he worked in the lumber camps for Abitibi Forestry. He moved to Sudbury in
1957 working for the Ukrainian Cooperative for 2 years, then Noront Steel as a
welder until his retirement in 1977. Walter was proud of his Ukrainian heritage
and was well respected within the local Ukrainian community. He had been the
President of the Ukrainian National Federation Sudbury Branch for several years
and a strong supporter of his wife's conducting the UNF’s “Dnipro” Choir and
his children’s dance presentations over the years. He was a member of St.
Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and an avid soccer fan when his sons played,
then turning to matches on television. Walter will be remembered as a good man
who loved his family, friends and community. Beloved husband of Ollia (Mysyk)
Rohatyn. Loving father of Taras (wife Deborah), Levko, and Oksana Wasylyk
(husband Stefan predeceased). Cherished grandfather of Stephan, Natalia,
Anastasia and Adrianna. Dear son of Matthew and Anna Rohatyn, predeceased. Dear
brother of Anna, Stach, Anastasia and Genya, all predeceased. Funeral Mass was
held on July23 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40
Notre Dame Ave., Sudbury,
Ont.
