Aug
16, (Interfax Ukraine) – The Canadian Group for Democracy in Ukraine has
offered to raise the issue of the release of imprisoned former Prime Minister
Yulia Tymoshenko at a meeting of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), which will
be held in Lviv on August 20-22, the press service of the Batkivschyna party
reported.
A relevant request
was sent to UWC President Eugene Czolij and the organization’s leadership.
“In order to release
Yulia Tymoshenko, the UWC needs to move from virtual calls to specific actions
engaging the entire world community of Ukrainians,” reads the statement sent to
the UWC leadership.
The Canadian Group
for Democracy in Ukraine recommends that the text of the resolution of the UWC
meeting should include a proposal that September, October and November should
become months of active support of Tymoshenko in the countries where Ukrainians
live.
The group also
believes it necessary to carry out a series of simultaneous rallies outside
Ukrainian diplomatic missions aimed at Tymoshenko’s release.
The Canadian Group
for Democracy believes that the diaspora should write to leaders of the
countries where they live with a request to promote the release of Tymoshenko.
Ukrainian diaspora organizations should also send relevant letters to Ukrainian
President Viktor Yanukovych.
