Lemko Tower
Comes to Toronto
Toronto –
The Canadian Lemko Association (CLA) of the Greater Toronto Area is pleased to
announce the visit of the Lemko Tower musical ensemble from Poland from
September 16-26, 2011. The
group was been invited to perform at the Canadian Lemko Association 50th Anniversary
Celebration Dinner on Sunday, September 25th, and at the Bloor West Village
Toronto Ukrainian Festival, September 16-18.
Lemko Tower is a
community based song and instrumental group whose performers are driven by
their enthusiasm and love of their ancestral culture. The group formed in 2005
as a part of the Association of Lemko Culture Enthusiasts in Strzelce
Krajeskie, Poland.
There are 22 members in the ensemble between the ages 16 and 25. The group has
gained popularity at Ukrainian festivals in Poland
thanks to their dynamic performance and modern approach to folk music. They
have appeared in almost 200 concerts and perform frequently at the Lemko
“Vatras” in dynia and ugi.
Lemko Tower has
recorded several CDs: Christmas Carols (2005); The Scent of the
Spring Breeze (2006); and Lemko Tower Live in Gorzów (2007). Spivanochky
(2009) won Third Place in
the folk music performers’ competition of Virtualni Husli (Virtual Violins).
