UWC and UCC Meet Ukraine Prosecutor General Investigation Head
On August 26, 2011,
Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij, together with Ukrainian
Canadian Congress President Paul Grod, met in Kyiv with Ukraine’s
Head of the Prosecutor General’s Department of Investigation of Particularly
Important Cases, Andrii Kurys.
The UWC President
conveyed the dismay of Ukrainians worldwide about the pressure being exerted by
Ukraine’s
government structures on political opponents in Ukraine,
and particularly the way in which the court case against former Ukrainian Prime
Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is being carried out.
He also focused on the unreasonable arrest of the former Prime Minister
and the startling decisions of the court to refuse Yulia Tymoshenko’s requests
for a reasonable delay to prepare her defence and for medical attention from
her personal physician.
Eugene Czolij also
emphasized that the UWC would continue to monitor the judicial proceedings of
political opponents in Ukraine.
