UNF Golfers Hit the Links

On Saturday, August 6, 2011, 65 golfers (duffers included) gathered at the Shanty Bay Golf Club in Oro-Medonte Township, North of Barrie, Ont., for the annual Ukrainian National Federation (Toronto) Camp “Sokil” Golf Tournament. In addition, 14 guests joined the golfers for dinner. Wow, what a turnout!

Tee-off time was 1pm. and the golfers were blessed once again with great weather, thanks to a personal call to the late Father Michael Luchka, made by the tournament chairman, Eugene Masney. Slava Isusu Khrystu!

Appreciation is given to the golf committee consisting of Eugene Masney, Stephen Masney, Andrij Szewczuk, Dianna Fedun, Donna Orlick, and Zenon Chwaluk for a job well done.

This year, the committee decided that there would be a slight change from the usual procedure, in that the awards dinner would be held at the golf course and our wonderful Ukrainian Women’s Organization (OYK) members Anne Fedun, Ann Rebryk, Irene Cord, Genya Hunchak and Dianna Fedun, who for many years prepared the awards dinner at Camp “Sokil”, would be our special guests and recognized for their contributions to the success of the tournaments over the years. With the dinner table set and ready, the ladies of OYK lead the prayer – Otche Nash (Our Father).

Donors and hole sponsors were acknowledged and thanked. Donations and sponsorship totalled $1900. A huge thank you goes to them for their generosity and support!

Three great raffle baskets were donated by the Fedun Family, the Rebryk Family, and Kathy and Greg Adamowich. Also, Andrij Szewczuk donated a great assortment of golf paraphernalia - everyone won something! Thank you for these donations and to Dianna Fedun for selling the raffle tickets, which raised $1120!

This year’s tournament once again was a great success having raised net funds in excess of $5,000 for support of UNF (Toronto) Recreation and Children’s Camp “Sokil” at Hawkestone, Ont. located on Lake Simcoe. A hearty thank you and applause go out to everyone who made a donation, all sponsors, supporters and participant players of the UNF Toronto Camp “Sokil” Golf Tournament.
