New School Year, New USC

TORONTO—After four months of extreme heat, weekend road trips, and summer jobs, school has finally begun for the students at the University of Toronto.  Just as everyone familiarizes themselves with their new courses and professors, the Ukrainian Students Club (USC) is preparing for what will surely be another busy and exciting year.

On September 15, the fresh faces of the new USC executive met at St. Vladimir Institute in Toronto to discuss upcoming events such as academic lectures relating to Ukraine and, on a lighter note, the annual Halloween Pub.

At nearly 15 executive members, the team for this academic year is one of the largest the club has ever seen.  Why has the executive grown to be so large? Firstly, there was a great deal of interest from individuals who expressed a willingness to be on the executive at the club’s annual elections last April.  As well, last year’s executive discovered the need for new positions that had not previously existed, for example, Political Director. Therefore, the executive was enlarged through the creation of these new positions.

With so many more executive members comes a lot more enthusiasm and energy, which were contagious throughout the meeting.

The first General Meeting of the USC at UofT will be held on September 22  at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vladimir Insitute at 620 Spadina Avenue in Toronto. Members, both old and new, can come and sign up to join the club (membership is $10), meet one another and find out what the agenda for the Ukrainian Students Club is for the upcoming academic year.  Afterwards, the festivities will continue at The Ferret & Firkin at 720 Spadina Avenue, just north of the Institute and south of the Spadina subway station.
