Veterans at Memorial Unveiling

TORONTO–On September 17, the Ontario Government unveiled a memorial at Queen’s Park commemorating the sacrifices of Canada’s veterans who served and continue to serve the country in war and peace.

Representing the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans’ Association, Branch 360 (Toronto) at the event were John Yaremko, a former member of the Ontario Legislature (1951-1975) who served in the Second World War as 2nd Lieutenant and Roman Kulyk, a Royal Canadian Legion member.

Also in attendance were many highly decorated veterans and distinguished government representatives, including Dalton McGuinty, the Premier of Ontario and James K. Bartelman, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

The new memorial, situated outside the provincial legislature, was designed by Canadian artist Allan Harding MacKay and landscape architectural firm Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg. It consists of a 30-metre long granite wall etched with scenes from Canada’s military history since Confederation.
