UCC Seeking Results in 2008 Federal Election

Ukrainian Community Wants to Know Where They Stand

Winnipeg - The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is encouraging all Ukrainian Canadians to become involved in the political process by learning where candidates in the 2008 Federal Election stand on important issues to our community and by exercising their right to vote.

In an effort to inform Canadians, the UCC is currently surveying these candidates as to where they stand on these issues that are of concern to the Ukrainian Canadian community today.

The key issues put forward on the questionnaire include Arctic Sovereignty, Multiculturalism, Canada-Ukraine relations, Citizenship and Immigration.

In an open letter to the Ukrainian Canadian community, National UCC President, Paul Grod, wrote “I encourage you to become familiar with those issues and to address them with the candidates in your riding.”

He also reiterated, “During the course of an election, I would like to make it abundantly clear that neither I nor the Congress endorse any political party or candidate. However, we encourage members of our community to support those candidates who have assisted the work of the Congress by consistently demonstrating their willingness to support our community in pursuit of its goals.”

The UCC intends to publish the results of the questionnaire in various news media and on the UCC website before the election.
