The Ukrainian Canadian Community of Oshawa
& Durham Region will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the
Holodomor Artificial Famine in Ukraine
1932-1933, with several events organized by the regional Holodomor Committee.

The exhibit, Holodomor:Genocide
by Famine, produced by the League of Ukrainian Canadians in cooperation
with the Kyiv Memorial Society in Ukraine, will be on display in the
Oshawa McLaughlin Public Library commencing Friday, Oct. 10th until
Saturday, Oct. 18th, inclusive. The Opening Ceremony is on
Friday, Oct. 10 at 1:00 pm in McLaughlin Library. This 101 panel exhibit
documents why and how the genocide was organised and includes evidence of
resistance to farm collectivisation, denials, cover-ups, protests, appeals for
assistance and thwarted attempts at relief.
Also on display will be commemorative art by noted Ukrainian artist
Olexander Wlasenko.
Film Documentary Night:

Bloor St. East (Oshawa) at 7 pm.
Braty (“Brothers”)
- this film focuses on Western Ukraine’s
attempt at famine relief. The film is in Ukrainian.
Holodomor: Technology of
Genocide - this documentary, produced in 2005 by the National TV
Network of Ukraine
highlights the government “machinery” of the Holodomor. The film is in
English.
Memorial Service: Saturday,
October 18, Memorial Park, at Simcoe and Metcalfe Streets (Oshawa at 2 pm.
The week-long awareness
raising exhibit in the McLaughlin Library will culminate in a memorial service
including a Panachyda at Memorial Park. The Consul General of Ukraine in
Toronto,
Oleksandr Danyleiko, will be in attendance as an honoured guest and keynote
speaker. Holodomor survivors will initiate a candlelight vigil which will be
followed by a brief procession to the library to view the exhibit on its final
day of display.
