Ukraine’s President Congratulates GG of Canada

“Relations with your state have always taken an important place in the foreign policy of Ukraine. The fact that Canada was the first Western country that recognized Ukraine’s independence determined a special character of Ukrainian-Canadian relations which are fixed by more than a century-long history”, stated Viktor Yanukovych, President of Ukraine, in his letter to His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor-General of Canada, congratulating him upon his appointment to the high rank of Governor General of Canada.

“Availing myself of this opportunity, I would like to express satisfaction with the development of Ukrainian-Canadian cooperation at the present stage, particularly, with the active bilateral political dialogue and negotiation process on a free-trade agreement. I hope for further development of friendly relations between Ukraine and Canada and for our personal meeting.

“Please accept, Your Excellency, sincere wishes for future successes in your responsible state activity as well as inexhaustive energy and strong health,” wrote President Yanukovych.
