.Media, Democracy and Freedom launched at Burstynsky Lecture

A book launch of Media, Democracy and Freedom: The Post-Communist Experience (Peter Lang, 2009) and presentation by Marta Dyczok was made as part of the Professor Ed Burstynsky Memorial Lecture Series on December 6, 2009 at St. Vladimir Institute in Toronto.

This recently published book edited by Marta Dyczok and Oxana Gaman-Golutvina does what few other works have done: it examines the role media have played in the larger political, economic and social transformations in the post communist space. An international group of scholars from various disciplines explore the complex relations between media, society, and the state in this region over the past twenty years, and present theoretical arguments that challenge dominant views.

Marta Dyczok is an associate professor of history and political science at the University of Western Ontario. She is the author of two books, including – The Grand Alliance and Ukrainian Refugees – (2000). Her current research is on the role of the mass media in Ukraine and contemporary migration processes there.
