Active members of the Toronto community, Turner & Porter Funeral Directors recently made the commitment to donate $100,000 to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre’s Home with a Heart Campaign.

“It’s just a pleasure to be a part of this project and we’re looking forward to enhancing the lifestyles of the Ukrainians here at the Centre,” said Jeffrey Porter, Vice President, “and certainly here in the community.”

Over the past 130 years, Turner & Porter has helped families plan personal and meaningful remembrances of their loved ones.  This family-owned company is committed to the simple philosophy of exceptional service for the families they serve - service that is “prompt, professional and of value,” says Douglas Porter, President.

Turner & Porter serves families from four Toronto-area locations. The Roncesvalles Chapel in Parkdale, Yorke Chapel in Bloor West Village and Mississauga’s Peel Chapel, in particular, have been serving the Ukrainian communities in everything from advanced planning to bereavement support, for several years.  “We felt that this donation was a way to commemorate those Ukrainian families we’ve served in the past,” said Douglas, “and also help the Ukrainian community at present.”

According to Douglas, the term “funeral home” has a special significance.  “We never forget that we are literally providing a temporary home for the families we serve,” he said, “and we spare no effort to provide a home environment.”

The Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, established in 1996, in Toronto's west-end, is a 120-bed long-term care home. The Care Centre’s $15 million Home with a Heart Campaign is to raise $8 million to expand and enhance its services and includes specialized care for 32 new residents in a secure unit and a 4-story tower to provide on-floor dining for residents.
