October 30  Dinner and Movie Night - Between Hitler and Stalin: Ukraine in World War II, The Untold Story is a documentary film in English by Slavko Nowytski and narrated by Jack Palance.  Presented by the Ukrainian National Federation and Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada - Toronto Branch at the UNF Community Centre, 145 Evans Ave.   Dinner at 5:30 pm., film screening at 7:00 pm.    For information, contact Hanya Cirka at 416-621-0984.

October 31  1-5 pm.  Mykola Lysenko: A Symposium sponsored by The Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Ukraine, the Canadian Foundation for Ukrainian Studies, and the Ukrainian Art Song Project. Invited scholars include Olga Andriewsky (Trent), Taras Filenko (Duquesne), Dagmara Turchyn, Rada Stankovych (Tchaikovsky Academy, Kyiv). Lysenko, an enormously influential and prolific 19th-century composer, is regarded as the founder of the art song genre in Ukraine.  Free and open to the public. November 17 6-8 pm. Annual Ukrainian Famine Lecture: “The Holodomor and the Soviet Famines, 1931-33” by Andrea Graziosi (University of Naples, Italy). The lecture will discuss the relations between the pan-Soviet 1931–1933 famines, Stalin’s decisions and policies in Moscow, and local conditions. A discussion of the genocide issue followed by thoughts on the Holodomor’s consequences for Ukraine. 8 1 pm Sudbury Premiere of Okradena Zemlya, the Ukrainian-language documentary film on the 1932-33 Famine-Genocide in Soviet Ukraine, produced and directed by filmmaker Yurij Luhovy. The film is based on recently uncovered archival documents, interviews with historians and first-hand accounts by survivors and eye-witnesses. Ukrainian Senior’s Centre, 30 Notre Dame Ave. The film is under the patronage of the Ukrainian World Congress.
