Members of the Ukrainian National Federation
(Toronto Branch) and its affiliated sports groups USC Karpaty and Shotokan
Karate Club were elected to the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Sports
Federation of USA and Canada (USCAK).
USCAK held their Annual
General Meeting at Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson, N.Y.
over the weekend of November 6 and 7th. Elected to the Board of Directors were
UNF members: Wlodko Arendacz (President, USC Karpaty) - Vice
President (Canada);
Mykola Shishko (Head of UNF Shotokan Karate) - Director, Karate; and Steve
Mazur (Administrator, USC Karpaty) to the Audit Committee. Other
Canadian directors elected were: Ihor Duda (Secretary, USC Karpaty) -
Media (Canada); Slawko Marchuk (USC Karpaty) - Table Tennis/Ping Pong; Dr. George Fotiy - Skiing/Snowboarding; and
Bob Kushnir - Golf.
In the mandate given to
him, Wlodko Arendacz is firstly, to revive USCAK in Canada
and co-ordinate tournaments. Secondly, to actively bring back organizations and
clubs into the fold while adding newly created ones, and thirdly, to establish
and actively solicit interested people to co-ordinate new sports disciplines
currently not under the USCAK central umbrella.
“We have a huge job ahead
of us. The first order of business is to create a Canadian Board of Directors
that will be reflective of sport across Canada”,
stated Arendacz. He added that: “A primary project in 2011 will be the
International Ukrainian Football Tournament 2011 to be held in Toronto,
August 13 – 21.”
