Appreciation for 2011 CUPP Student Interns
Ottawa
- On October 27,
2011,
the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada
hosted the official presentation ceremony of certificates to the
Ukrainian
students participating in the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Program -
internship
in the offices of Members of Parliament of Canada. The certificates
were
presented by Robert Sopuck, Chair of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary
Friendship Group, and signed by the Right Honourable Stephen Harper,
Prime
Minister of Canada. The ceremony was attended by Members of Parliament
Ted Opitz,
Peter Goldring, James Bezan, Harold Albrecht, Joyce Bateman, Susan
Truppe, Ed
Komarnicki, Wladyslaw Lizon, Bernard Trottier, Alexandre Boulerice and
others,
as well as by representatives of the diplomatic corps and Ukrainian
community,
particularly, Mykola Bilaniuk, President, Ukrainian Canadian Congress
– Ottawa
Branch.
During their
speeches,
the MPs thanked the Ukrainian interns for their work and stressed their
high-level of knowledge and education.
Following
the official
program, the Ukrainian students organized a cultural program called
“Ukrainian
Vechornytsi” – an evening gathering of traditional
Ukrainian music, songs,
jokes and rituals, which was then followed by a reception.
The
Canada-Ukraine
Parliamentary Program has been running since 1991. Under this
initiative,
students from higher educational institutions from regions across Ukraine
perform the duties of a two-month long internship in the offices of
Members of
Parliament of Canada.
