Departing Ukrainian Ambassador Meets with Canadian Officials

OTTAWA–The Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Mykola Maimeskul held a series of talks on January 26 with various representatives of the Canadian Parliament and Government in conjunction with the completion of his tour of duty in Canada.

According to an Embassy of Ukraine press release, at a meeting with the Honourable Dan Hays, Speaker of the Senate of Canada, Ambassador Maimeskul expressed his gratitude for the interest in the events in Ukraine and for the support of the Canadian Federal legislative body for the democratic changes in Ukraine.  Maimeskul mentioned as examples the Senate’s recent resolution with regards to marking the Ukrainian Holodomor, the genocidal famine that took place in Ukraine from 1932-33, and the Senate hearing on the 2004 Orange Revolution.

Both Senator Hays and Ambassador Maimeskul noted the importance of further deepening the cooperation and dialogue between Canada and Ukraine.

In a meeting with Jonathan Fried, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, and Thomas Macdonald, General Director of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade’s Eastern and Central European Department, the representatives of the two countries discussed how to actualize Canadian-Ukrainian political dialogue, especially in the context of organizing high-level exchanges.
