Zuk Duo at Glenn Gould

Luba Zuk and her brother, lreneus Zuk perform both as piano soloists and together as the Zuk Duo. Along with the standard repertoire, the Duo has consistently featured music by Canadian and Ukrainian composers and has presented many world premieres, including works written especially for them by several prominent composers. Some of these compositions were commissioned under grants from the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council. The Duo's recordings have appeared on the SNE label and in the Radio Canada International Anthology of Canadian Music.

The Zuk Duo has toured frequently abroad and appeared at several international music festivals in Europe They performed in major cities in Canada, the USA, as well as in Austria, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Scotland and Ukraine. Recently, on the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of China, and with the support of the Performance Division of Foreign Affairs Canada, they played recitals and presented master classes during an extensive tour of China.

The Duo has performed also on CBC Radio, Austrian National Radio, Polish Radio and Ukrainian State Radio. They serve on juries of international music competitions and adjudicate in Canadian music festivals. In recognition of their artistic achievements, the Government of Ukraine bestowed a high honour upon the Zuk Duo - they were each awarded a medal and the title "Merited Artist of Ukraine". Both have also been awarded the Shevchenko Medal by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

Born in Western Ukraine, Luba and Ireneus Zuk are graduates of McGill University and the Conservatoire de Musique de Quebec in Montreal. Both also studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the University of Alberta Banff School Of Fine Arts. They are professors at McGill and Queen's Universities, respectively.

Luba Zuk holds a PhD in Musicology from the Ukrainian Free University in Munich, where she is also a visiting professor. lreneus Zuk studied at the Royal College of Music in London, the Juilliard School in New York and holds a doctorate from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He has performed on CBC Radio and Television, as well as in numerous recitals in North America, Europe and the Far East and as soloist with several orchestras. He is a former Director of the School of Music at Queen's University in Kingston.
