Ukrainian Academy News on Hrushevsky

The Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in the US is pleased to announce the publication of Volume IV of its “NEWS”, dedicated to the memory of Mykhajlo Hrushevsky on the 140th Anniversary of his birth.
Hrushevsky is remembered in the article “Mykhajlo Hrushevsky in the History of Ukraine”, written by Lubomyr Wynar, Head of the HistoricalSection of the Academy.
A separate section of “NEWS” is devoted to the history of the Academy. It contains a survey by Oleksander Dombrowsky “The Free Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in the USA” as well as reprints of the minutes to proceedings of conferences where active Academy members spoke, presented and read papers.
Another section pays tribute to academicians Assya Humesky, Oleksa Bilaniuk and Bohdan Wynar who recently celebrated their 80th Birthdays. It is followed by several articles. The first, by two Academy members from Ukraine, historians Yurij and Vitalij Makariv, discusses the scholarly contributions of Lubomyr Wynar. Another, by Alla Atamanenko, Director of the Institute for Research of the Ukrainian Diaspora at the Ostroh Academy, gives an account of its activities. The third, by Assya Humesky, is a literary analysis of “Feminine Spirituality in Lesja Ukrainka.”
The Documentation section contains the following reports by: (1) President Oleksa Bilaniuk on Academy activities, Years 1998-2006; (2) Vice-President Lubomyr Wynar on the work of the Historical Section and the Publication Committee; and (3) Assya Humesky on the activities of the Language and Literature Section. Within the “Current News” the reader will find a report on the Third International Congress of Ukrainian Historians in Lutsk, Ukraine, provided by Svitlana Havryliuk, and a report on the Hrushevsky conference in New York, written by Oleksander Dombrovsky.
There is also an addendum with new information on Dmytro Doroshenko’s bibliography as researched by Hryhorij Kuras, and additions to Oleksander Dombrowsky’s bibliography.
