Ukraine's Ambassador Congratulates New Head of Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group

On December 13, 2007, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Ihor Ostash, sent greetings to Joy Ann Smith, Conservative M.P. for Kildonan – St. Paul (Manitoba) congratulating her on her (recent) election as the Chair of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group.

“Through your active participation in the Group since your election to Parliament, and through your involvement in matters of great importance for both Ukraine and the Ukrainian Community in Canada, you have contributed greatly to the development of friendly relations between our two countries. I would like to take this opportunity to particularly thank you once again for your personal role in facilitating the democratic transformations and improving the transparency and fairness of the electoral process in Ukraine, as well as, for advocating the recognition of the tragedy of the Holodomor [Famine] of 1932-33 in Ukraine.

I am confident that your leadership of the Group will help bring our nations and parliaments even closer together. I wish you the best of luck in this new important position, and would like to present (to you) the assurances of my highest consideration.”
