Raya Shadursky Seeks CPC Nomination in Mississauga South

On January 31, diverse support was evident at the UNF Community Centre’s Trident Hall for Raya Shadursky at her kick-off event in her bid to seek nomination as the Conservative Party of Canada’s (CPC) candidate for Mississauga South.

The riding’s nomination meeting still has not been set, but a nominee’s success depends on the number of members voting for him or her at the  meeting.  Shadursky, therefore, is looking for campaign support and urgently signing up Conservative Party riding association members whose principal residence is in Mississauga South.

Currently, there are five nominees for the Conservatives in Mississauga South.  Shadursky is the only woman seeking nomination for the electoral district. The current sitting Member of Parliament for Mississauga South is Liberal Paul Szabo.

In her campaign literature, Raya Shadursky says she is seeking nomination and wants to run as the Conservative candidate to win the electoral seat as Member of Parliament because she believes that “Canada can be THE country to live, raise families and enjoy our retirement.”

Canada can have the best health care, the safest streets, the freshest air and water,” she adds.

Shadursky has chosen to run for the Conservatives because she believes that “this government has taken and is taking the necessary steps to safeguard our economy, environment and security.”

But, “we need more voices at the federal table that have Ontario interests as priorities,” she says.

Well-known to the community, Shadursky says she has also decided to run “as we need more voices at the federal level to influence positive outcomes to issues dealing with Ukraine and with issues affecting Canadians of Ukrainian heritage.”

Shadursky’s perspective of federal relations is based on her experiences of having lived and travelled across Canada from coast-to-coast.  “There are core values shared … and similar troubles felt by all Canadians that can be resolved,” she says.

Born in Toronto, Raya Shadursky has lived in Mississauga South for over 12 years.  A former director of the CPC riding association, she is the current President of the Orchard Heights Home Owners’ Association.  She holds a BA Degree in Political Science from York University, is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers and is Manager of Organizational Development at So-Use Credit Union.

Among her many community and volunteer activities, Raya Shadursky is a former National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Federation. She now holds positions as a Board of Directors Member of St. Demetrius Development Corporation – Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, an executive member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Ontario Council and, Executive Director of Toronto’s highly successful Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival, held every summer.

To become a member of the CPC, individuals must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, believe in the principles of the party and be over the age of 14.
