Roy Kostuk
1932-2011
It is with sadness to share the news that Roy Michael Kostuk passed away
peacefully on February 1, 2011 at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre at
the age of 79 years.
Roy was the loving husband of Irene
(nee Snihura) for 54 years, devoted
father to Mary Ann Lyons and Roy
and his wife Vera, and cherished dido to Alexa and Matthew.
Roy was called to the Ontario Bar as a
lawyer in 1960 and designated with Queen’s Counsel in 1975 for his
dedicated work in the legal profession. Despite the demands of
career work and family, Roy’s
accomplishments were many and varied. He produced records, ran a radio
program and for forty years involved himself in church and community
organizations.
In 1967-68, he was President of the Ukrainian National Federation,
Toronto Branch.
He had the honour of being “Mayor” of the “Kyiv Pavilion” during Toronto’s Metro
International Caravan.
From 2001 to 2004, Roy
was the first Canadian-born President of the UNF of Canada.
Throughout his life, Roy
embraced his Ukrainian culture and heritage, donning his embroidered Ukrainian
shirt and “tryzub” tie.
May his memory be eternal – Vichnaya pam’yat’!
