In Memoriam – Jean Kurelek

Jean Kurelek, the wife of the famous Ukrainian Canadian artist William Kurelek (1927-1977), 

died in Toronto on January 9, 2009 at age 80. She was born on November 7, 1928 in Guelph, Ontario. 

Recently, a painting by William Kurelek of Toronto's Balsam Street in winter where he lived was sold at auction for $242,000. 

This is a record sale for one of his paintings. The late Ken Thomson donated his large Kurelek 

collection to the Art Gallery of Ontario which plans to mount a major Kurelek 

exhibition similar to the successful Kurelek’s Vision of Canada which was shown in 15 art galleries across Canada in 1982-84.
