Canada’s Ambassador on Medical Assessment of Yulia Tymoshenko
February 18, 2012 - Canada’s Ambassador
to Ukraine, Troy Lulashnyk, issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the
Government of Canada, I would like to pay my sincerest gratitude to the three
Canadian physicians who have recently concluded an independent medical
assessment of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
“Canada has
repeatedly expressed its strong support and commitment to this humanitarian
mission. We were pleased that the three Canadian doctors, joined by two German
physicians, were able to carry out an independent medical assessment of Ms.
Tymoshenko. The fields of expertise of the Canadian doctors complemented the
specialisations of the German physicians.
“While I cannot
comment on the medical findings of either the Canadian or German doctors due to
doctor-patient confidentiality, I can say that the three members of the
Canadian medical team are upstanding, highly qualified and experienced medical
practiti-oners.They conducted their examination of Ms. Tymoshenko upholding the
highest medical standards, especially with respect to their objectivity and
ethics. Furthermore, the Canadian medical team’s observations, shared with the
medical commission and with the permission of Ms. Tymoshenko, were in no way
influenced by any external factors. Reports to the contrary are false.
“Canada believes that
Ms. Tymoshenko’s health should remain the primary focus of all involved.”
