Edmonton Welcomes NY Curator

The Peter and Doris Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore, University of Alberta, in conjunction with the Royal Alberta Museum and the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies are pleased to sponsor public lectures in Edmonton offered by Lubow Wolynetz, Curator of the Folk Art Collection at the Ukrainian Museum in New York City. The lecture topics, dates and locations are as follows:

Tuesday, February 27 - Preserving and Promoting Ukrainian Culture: A Case Study – The Ukrainian Museum in New York. Royal Alberta Museum, 12845-102nd Avenue at 7 p.m. and;

Thursday, March 01 - Ukrainian Folk Culture–Its Role and Importance in Ethnic Identity Formation.  Humanities Centre Lecture Room 2, University of Alberta, Saskatchewan Dr. and 112 St. at 3:30 p.m.

Lubow Wolynetz will be sharing her expertise throughout the Edmonton community during the week of her visit.  Her research specialties include Ukrainian embroidery, ritual baking, ritual cloths, folk wedding traditions and folk dress. She has written over 30 journal articles dealing with folk art and lore. Actively involved in the preparation and opening of the Ukrainian Museum in New York in 1976, she was in charge of the Museum’s educational programs – organizing courses, workshops and conferences. From 1982, she became the Museum’s curator of the Folk Art Collection and has created over twenty exhibitions. For more information contact Sheryl Mayko at the Kule Centre 780-492-6906
