MUNO Winnipeg Fundraiser

By Ivana Spylchak

Back in November 2009, the Ukrainian National Youth Federation (UNYF) Winnipeg Branch gathered in the UNF Hall on Main Street, for the revived group’s first fundraising event. Over 20 people - MUNO members, friends and helpful mothers - made the perogy fundraiser possible. The event was a great success, which has recruited new members to join the organization. The fundraiser volunteers demonstrated much interest in Ukrainian cultural traditions and showed interest in upcoming events.  The participants were spread out into three groups. The first group was in charge of rolling out the dough. The second group was making the perogies.  Lastly, and not least important, the third group was in charge of boiling the perogies and keeping count of the number of packages made. Production was successfully completed by two in the afternoon. Some of the volunteers had the pleasure of making perogies for the first time, while others perfected their skills.

In total, the UNYF Winnipeg Branch made over two hundred and fifty dozen perogies with extra to share and go around the group. UNYF has been receiving excellent comments from the community, which is eagerly expecting another fundraiser soon, organized by UNYF. MUNO members, friends and parents had a fun weekend at the UNF Hall as they met new people, gained new skills such as perogy-making and the opportunity to practice their Ukrainian language.  UNYF Winnipeg sincerely thanks Sofia Petryk, the energetic and bright Branch President, who was able to organise and coordinate this fun event.  The perogy fundraiser had a good volunteer turnout and successful outcome - perogies for sale with proceeds going to help UNYF Winnipeg Branch grow and prosper.
