Ukrainan City Councillor

After an exhausting campaign in the LaSalle riding, Montreal's City Council has its own Ukrainian representative in Oksana Kaluzny. While her brother Evhen acted as her campaign manager, Oksana told the New Pathway she "really appreciates [the] enthusiasm" of her Ukrainian volunteers, among them Maurice Antoniuk and Sylvia Kouchoulnetska, who helped with Slavic-language communications. Called to the Quebec Bar in 1980, Oksana joined the Department of Justice. In 1988 she was appointed to the Immigration Refugee Board and in 1992 to the Quebec Youth Protection Board. She also serves on the Federal Human Rigths Tribunal Panel. Oksana's father, Simon, was for many years a member of the Ukrainian National Federation and the Striletska Hromada.
