Local community activist and businessman Borys Wrzesnewskyj was elected late in April to head the federal Liberal Association in the riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore. A member of the Liberal party for the last 10 years, Borys will be working with Jean Augustine, a former school principal born in Grenada, who is MP for the southwest Toronto riding.
Previously, Borys worked as the riding association's Executive Vice-President and served on its executive for the past three years.
Borys comes from a family of prominent Ukrainian Canadian activists that founded the popular Future Bakery chain. Both his parents, Roman and Iryna, are active members of many community organizations, while his sister, Ruslana, is the project coordinator for Help Us Help the Children, a charity that supplies humanitarian aid to orphanages and children in Ukraine. His aunt and uncle, Yaroslawa and Mykhajlo Szafraniuk, funded the establishment of the prestigious Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation.
