The Ukrainian painter Omelian Mazuryk passed away on November 13, 2002, in Paris. Born in the Lemko region in 1937, he lived in a suburb of Paris from 1967. He was the author of many paintings and icons, most notably the iconostas in the Ukrainian church located in the heart of Paris. Over the decades Ukrainian visitors from all over the world have marvelled at the exquisiteness of this work. Numerous exhibits of Mr. Mazuryk’s works have been held in Europe, North America, and Ukraine since its independance. Many admirers of Omelian Mazuryk’s works, including Pope John-Paul II and former French president Francois Mitterand, are proud owners of his paintings. Omelian Mazuryk has joined the saints and angels whom he loved to paint. He is mourned by his wife Odarka and two sons, Sviatoslav and Boian, who have inherited his artistic creativity.
