UWO Mother’s Day Dinner

Jeanie Hunchak

(UWO) – Each year the Toronto Branch of the Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada honours its mothers with a dinner.

Our social convener, Anna Adamowich, arranged for the dinner to be held at the Linden Restaurant on Tuesday May 23 2003, and made all the arrangements for reservations, the door prizes and the raffle. Anna arranged to have each lady receive a long stem carnation from the UNF Toronto Branch.

Our treasurer, Irene Potopilny, and Executive Members, Senta Wozniuk and Lydia Perets, were there to help. Olya Leschuk made up the posters and the tickets.

Our cultural conveners, Orysia Sopinka-Chwaluk and Vera Rohozynsky-Storoniak contacted our guest speaker, Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby.

Councillor Luby delighted and enthralled the audience with her personal and warm address. She invited us into her world as a daughter, mother, wife and politician and we all enjoyed sharing in these small pieces of her life. Councillor Luby represents Ward 4 Etobicoke.

During the evening a few poems were read, including a beautiful surprise reading from Roxolana Chwaluk, daughter of Mr and Mrs Zenon Chwaluk.

The evening ended on a happy note. We were pleased that we had attended because we had a chance to talk to each other, heard Gloria Lindsay Luby speak and learned a little more about the world around us.
